I was sitting in the doctor’s office yesterday waiting to get my weekly allergy shot, waiting very impatiently. I’ll admit, I don’t have an ounce of patience. That morning, I took Bryant to the doctor and waited an hour. We NEVER wait at our Pediatrician’s office. Needless to say, I wasn’t in the greatest mood by the time I got to the second doctor of the day. I never have to wait over ten minutes to get my allergy shots because of the convenient time that I go around lunch time and Huntsville rush hours. I signed in, and I was glad to see that I was the only one there waiting. It was about 1:30 and although it seemed as if half the nurses were at lunch, there was no sign, or hours posted for their lunch time. I waited for 45 minutes on apparently, the nurses to get back from lunch. During that 45 minutes however, I had an epiphany.
Bryant was playing with toys beside me and calling my name every sixty seconds, “Kayla, look at this!” “Kayla, what is this?” “Kayla, check this out!”
I had noticed them when I walked in but just now paid any attention to the older couple sitting across from me. They appeared to be in their late 60s or early 70s.
Then I noticed what they were reading.
He was reading a thick hard cover book titled, Grunts. Under it, all that I caught a glimpse of was World War II. She, on the other hand, was reading a paperback book titled, God & football. This made me crack a smile. I hoped that I wasn’t staring too long at them for them to notice. Their titles made me think of something very broad in such a short amount of time. World War II may have been around the time this man had been born. Did his father serve during WWII? This topic could have interested him but also could have affected his life in some way or another. This also made me realize, you would most likely never see a younger person reading a book about this heavy topic.
As for the lady, her book amused me. Two of my favorite things. God and football. Yet, non-comparatively. This woman was almost a fast forward into my future. Any of my friends could tell you how much I love football! It is a major part of my entertainment. Isn’t it amazing how far women have come? Women started out with not a single right. Now, we can sit anywhere we would like and read “boy” things like football books. I am so glad society has changed for us for the better!
I had no idea who these people were or what they were like. I don’t know if this man has a special connection in his heart to WWII. I don’t know if this woman was religious or whether she even liked football that much. This couple had no idea they would be analyzed in my blog. I just sat down across from them with my Glamour magazine and an open mind and gained more than I realized I would.
I was in a great mood the rest of the day.
